Today I learned that LEGO has a program where you can send them your old LEGO (bricks, pieces, mini-figs, etc). LEGO will then take them in, wash / sterilize them, and donate them to children in need!

They even pay for the shipping for you.

If you want to know more, you can check out their website here: https://www.lego.com/en-us/sustainability/environment/replay

@mdmrn Yes. a great idea from LEGO. kids do not even know they are (refurbished) not new. Doesn't matter give them LEGOS, like a cat 😾😾😽 they will play with the box anyway .... 🤣🤣🤣🤔😁👍
@mdmrn You will have to pry my old bricks from my cold dead hands because "there might be a kid down my genetic line that will play with them"!!!! :)

@BubblegumYeti I mean, fair

I just think this is a really nice program to help kids

@mdmrn I know... I was not being serious :) But TBH I have handed down bricks to kids in family many many times. For some reason it is hard to part with them.
@mdmrn brb, going to start collecting all the oceanic LEGO washing up on beaches
@nyquildotorg  I salute the efforts

@mdmrn @paul_ipv6 That’s great and I’m glad they’re doing it.

But.. what are you going to play with after you give away your legos?

@mdmrn

Ooh! Bless their kind plastic hearts! And covert product endorsements

Seriously, though.

Lego bricks are toys for children to learn and have fun. And, more importantly, non-biodegradable pieces of plastic that, because of the amount of plastic entering the environment, when the children of today become tomorrow's adults, will wish that the adults of today hadn't bought them so much plastic stuff.

Whilst we are endorsing products. These boots are the best https://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/all_products/trail_boot_mk3_brown/20026_p.html

@mdmrn
[PSA] The plural of Lego is Lego.

You're welcome.

@VisualStuart @mdmrn The plural of LEGO brick is LEGO bricks.
@mdmrn Somewhere out there, is a person who gets to put "In charge of Lego washing" on their CV/resume.
@MHowell Honestly, sounds like a killer resume / CV line
@mdmrn This is a wonderful setup. Only for the US, as far as I can see. I hope they will start this in Europe as well.
@annemartine Me too. Just boosted from someone else who noticed they are doing it in Canada too.
@mdmrn Looks like this program is available in Canada as well (sadly, it's not available in the rest of the world - at least yet?): https://www.lego.com/en-ca/sustainability/environment/replay

@IgorRock Awesome! Thanks for sharing that!!
@mdmrn @tayfonay OMG! That is so great! I have a LOT of them…

@mdmrn

It's a gimmick marketing ploy to give them an image that they care about the environment. Just donate your legos to a thrift store.

@mdmrn this is awesome! 👏🏼
