This Verge package on Twitter is so fantastic and beautifully designed, it's a must read https://www.theverge.com/c/23972308/twitter-x-death-tweets-history-elon-musk
The year Twitter died: a special series from The Verge

Twitter was many things: a news accelerator, a harassment engine, and an infinite joke machine. It will be missed.

@taylorlorenz Absolutely love the art direction on this!
@taylorlorenz Appropriate that I see this on Mastodon, which sure seems like it's taken a turn for the better and feels more like old Twitter than ever before, except without a lot of the negatives.
@Wint @taylorlorenz Yes! I created this new Mastodon account yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised they never asked me for a server & I didn’t have to wait for a server owner’s permission. So now, it’s just as easy as Twitter back in the day. I think the previous difficult on-boarding kept the trolls / negative people away. 😎✌️

@taylorlorenz Headline 💯! Graphics 💯 !

But I can't bear to read it, too early to relive it!

@taylorlorenz the unprincipled are the only reason it goes on unfortunately. Elon just confuses swastikas with freedom of speech.
dear people who maintain an Elon Musk account so I don’t have to: Don’t use me as an excuse. You are there because you want to be.
@taylorlorenz This is the perfect balance of fucking around and not fucking around. 10/10

@taylorlorenz

Does the section of the article that is nothing but archived tweets, mostly quite funny, ever come to the end?

@taylorlorenz

TikTok is now the best source for breaking news that has an extended development time. Which is why this shithole country would like nothing better than to extinguish it under the pretense of data collection which the motherfuckers seem to be perfectly fine with in regards to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, etc., etc.
