Even though 7 or 8 years since that merit contest at University of Oviedo and 4 since scandal broke out in Spanish media have passed and lots of people have been entangled in this network of corruption, threats and coercion,majority have not yet found out what happened.

According to Asturian #Fascist media, 65 yo Carlos López Otín,
full professor of #Biochemistry and Molecular #Biology at University of #Oviedo who had to retract 9 papers on figure and raw data issues,was involved in a plot of opacity regarding the euthanasia of 6,000 genetically modified mice in the University's bioterium and coercion and blackmail of those who reported opacity in the matter will retire on December 15

In Spain,professors and full-professors can avoid forced retirement with status of emeritus by contract with University for 4 years reaching the age of 70 Afterwards they can prolong the matter as an extraordinary collaborator or promoting to Honorary Professor of University if Rector agrees.
They usually reach 72 yo and some die with their asses attached to their professorship. The matter is not trivial because a professor receives between 3,000 and 6,000 euros per month from Spanish State.

While this is happening at the University of #Oviedo with full-professor López Otín's retirement, at University of Sevilla, non-official professors receive 600 euros per month for teaching classes.
