@drlerer my favorite fungus is Leucoagaricus gongylophorus, which is cultivated by leaf cutter ants for food. It's closely related to many mushroom forming fungi. I studied it in grad school.

@drlerer cultivation of that fungi can support up to eight million ants in some colonies - the largest colonies with a single queen on earth!
