It remains utterly fascinating to me how many of you lot look at a 2700K light source and describe it as "not white"
Y'all gotta stop staring at screens all day

Is it yellow-ish? I suppose you could call it that.
"Yellow?" tf are you seeing.
I remain convinced people with this take have spent time in chronically underlit environments and haven't actually seen a well-lit space in their lives. If shifting to cool white lets you see better you don't have enough illumination.
I keep my house purposely underlit and yes I'd describe warmer lighting as more yellow than cooler lighting, which is more blue. I thought the comparative color was indisputable, but I'm even more taken aback by the hostility. So much anger because people accurately describe warmer light as being yellow compared to cooler light? Yikes. Guess I made a mistake subscribing on youtube and following here, I'll fix that right now. Sorry my opinion, which I didnt even express before now, is so offensive to you.
@kwsapphire by all means, feel free to eliminate me from your life.
But I am utterly and totally perplexed at how I am supposed to post things here on this website because it seems no matter what I do, if I let any of my personality leak out, people are mad.
You seem like the kind of person who has been on the internet a long time, so I'm perplexed how you expect anything less. People on the internet can get mad at puppies and rainbows. You act like people are idiots for calling the obviously yellow thing yellow and expect nothing but likes and retoots? O_o
@kwsapphire oh look, a chart made with a camera that had its white balance set to 5000k.
(This time the snark is deliberate)
Fine, here's one with white balance set to sunlight.
2700-3000k is still yellow by comparison.
I am not wrong. :P I'm just wondering if you've got a bit of undiagnosed colorblindness.
@TechConnectify @kwsapphire I think this is a large audience problem.
I read your posts in my internal rendition of your voice and cadence, and I've been subscribed long enough to your YouTube channel to know how you speak and how to interpret what you say.
But, let's be honest. One day I might be having a bit of an off day and completely misinterpret what you say wildly!
Maybe I will suck at making a good comment back, and thus make you upset as well.
If we assume that this can happen, then with more subscribers it will. That's not to discount people who are being intentionally cantankerous, or natural jerks.
I like you being here, I wish I had a solution.
@TechConnectify @kwsapphire I love all of your work, and your personality is what makes your videos special - otherwise it is AI reading Wikipedia. đ„°
Donât let people who disagree with you ruin your day, especially with something subjective and/or vague (like color temps).
Block people who bother you. Itâs not worth it (in the long run) to argue with people who disagree with you and are bored enough to keep discussing it - it will just wear you out.
Trust yourself âșïž
@TechConnectify
I really don't understand why people are so hostile to you, it's not what I'm used to seeing on here.
Also: Firstly, I've heard 2700k described as "warm white" all my life, and secondly:
You don't have to cut someone out of your life because they disagree with the label we should put on a light temperature. Do people realise how ridiculous that is? Was the Twitter algorithm so good at building filter bubbles that even those dissenting opinions were filtered?
@kwsapphire
If you're constantly finding that people hate your personality, at least consider the possibility that you're taking an actual issue with yourself and folding it into your idea of personality. Of the people who have been major problems in my life, most of them have tried to pass their problems off as personality. And of the people who I've been able to get along with long term, none have.
I follow you here and on YouTube because you sometimes present interesting information -- not because I think you're pleasant person. I don't. Despite your bio, I view you as an extremely unfriendly person. I view you as someone who doesn't care one iota about the emotions of strangers.
I've been using Mastodon for a long time. I've been in various spaces on the platform. I've seen various people starting out. You are having a rather unique experience, and I see that experience as fully attributable to what you've chosen to consider part of your personality.
@TechConnectify @kwsapphire It may also be instructive to bring up the concept of punching up vs punching down. On your YouTube Channel, you tend to make fun of companies and industries. That is punching up. Here, you tend to make fun of ordinary people. Seeing as you have a major platform, that is very much punching down.
People tend to like seeing people punch up. It demonstrates bravery and worldliness. People tend to hate seeing people punch down. It demonstrates a lack of empathy. Refusing to draw a distinction between these two kinds of humor also demonstrates a lack of empathy.
And people especially hate punching down when they are the ones being punched.
@dipolecat It's pretty bold of you to make the assertions you're making, I must say.
For one - you think my experience is unique because of how I behave? Does that mean you don't think having my thoughts sent to 35 thousand people, some of whom are acquainted with violently anti-corporate people who are openly hostile to folks who host content on YouTube might be part of the issue?
Also - for the record, you're free to have these thoughts. Obviously. But expressing them at me? Pretty bold.
@dipolecat How do you think it feels to come onto a platform where people are telling me - to my face - that I shouldn't have my job, that I'm literally evil for using YouTube, or (as is the case right now) that "I view you as an extremely unfriendly person?"
Do you think that's a fun place to be and a fun place to spend time?
Because I don't. The only people I'm mad at are the jerks. But something about this platform causes me to run into them a lot.
But as usual, cause must be user error.
â
â@cody @TechConnectify @dipolecat I mean,
Stop replying, start blocking or mutingWouldn't that be a game of whack-a-mole at his scale?
â@cody @HedgiePT Hey. For real now. Listen to me:
People do not believe me when I say I am encountering this shit. A lot of that is because of how federation works. So I am absofuckinglutley going to start boosting some of the toxic shit thrown my way because I'm tired of being gaslit.
And for the few that do believe that I'm having problems, telling me that I need to tone police myself or in other ways become a different person is PRETTY FUCKING GROSS.
â I'm sorry this is the way shit turned out man... I really wish everyone would be more tolerant...@cody @HedgiePT You'd made an assumption there. I don't care what people do with the boosts (and I'll be boosting my reply, not the offending comment) and wouldn't wish for anyone to "go after" those folks.
But I am so. fucking. tired. of people not believing me when I say I'm not having a great time here. Lots of "why?" "everyone's nice to me" and "works on my machine"
If people don't believe the problem's there, it won't get fixed.
@cody @HedgiePT I am not going to just sit here and take it anymore.
And it is wild beyond wild that TWITTER of all places managed to be easier to exist in. I know that wasn't the case for everyone, but it absolutely was for me.
And I believe a big part of that was that there was actually a culture there and people faced repercussions *from the crowd* for being a jerk. Nobody does here, so there's a lotta jerks.
@TechConnectify for what it's worth, there's a lot of self appointed hallway monitors here and it sucks. I don't think it's the platform per se (no algorithm and all that), but rather the kind of people that have flocked here. Given the current continuing influx of a diverse crowd I hope it improves.
Some other high profile accounts (whom I shall not @) are vocal they just ignorw/block.
I hope you stay, I enjoy your content.
@cody @TechConnectify @dipolecat Uhm, yes, ignoring bad things has always made these things magically disappear in the past.
Because that's how everything works.
@cody @TechConnectify @dipolecat
I'm not sure it's helpful for people with ~250 followers to give advice to people with ~35,000 followers about how to cope with unpleasant interactions, because the challenges you're going to face are going to be completely different.
@cody @TechConnectify @dipolecat victim blaming much? People make decisions to be shitty to other people. That's not the fault of the other people.
@TechConnectify is upset about an issue that is clearly causing him real pain, and your response is to tell him to calm down. Tell me, does that ever work for you? How about *you* mute, block, or scroll if you don't like what he says? Or even unfollow.
Also you win jerk points for using 'lynch' in this scenario.
@cody @TechConnectify @dipolecat Are you aware, that in this post, you are being a wasp?
Itâs the âwell intentionedâ posts that are actually unwanted and missing the context and point that are the PITA. Youâre being the PITA. Ya donât need to say all the things you think - especially to people with massive audiences; thatâs the crux of the issue. (I assume you are being bombarded with this. Guess what⊠thatâs a very small version of exactly the problem Alec has).
