#curl: I have toyota corola

The main effect is that normal end users find my email address via the curl license text in products in cars to a higher degree. They usually find it in the about window or an open source license listing or similar. Often I suspect my email address is just about the only address listed.

This occasionally makes desperate users who have tried everything to eventually reach out to me. They can’t fix their problem but since my email exists in their car, surely I can!

@continue @nixCraft I got some *angry* e-mails because someone used some of my open source code in their app, and the only person’s name and web address users could find in the about screen was the credit to me.

I had a text-block set aside every time those arrived, explaining why I had no idea what their software even did and they should talk to whoever they bought it from, and eventually ended up just ignoring any further messages from such people.

@uliwitness @continue @nixCraft I've lucked out so far. The only email I've ever received was "hey, I saw you in the credits for Spider Man! Congrats!"
@hyc @continue @nixCraft I was lucky once. I had some code that added a "send feedbackā€ screen to an app, and one guy integrated it and somehow forgot to change the e-mail address. Sent me an e-mail apologizing and bought me drinks at WWDC the year after šŸ˜
