One day after Elon Musk agrees with a great replacement Jews "hatred against whites" tweet, the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League thanks Elon for his "leadership in fighting hate" because he's suspending X users who post the phrases "decolonization" or "from the river to the sea"

@micahflee
The ADL is a sad cautionary tale about where a virtuous mission will take you when it becomes monomania.

I really, really hope they get their heads out of their asses — or that a more circumspect organization picks up their original mission of fighting actual antisemitism. Because we urgently need people doing that right now, and the ADL ain’t it.

@inthehands @micahflee Do you think maybe there's a tension between fighting antisemitism, and supporting revisionist Zionism?

I do. I think Netanyahu and his friends want me to feel unsafe as a Jew, so I'll accept their crimes as necessary evils.

@fivetonsflax @micahflee
Indeed, and I think the ADL has •exacerbated• antisemitism by trying to argue that any criticism of the Israeli government is antisemitic, which has ended up wrongly implying that all Jews everywhere are responsible for that gov and every awful thing it does. Don’t think ADL would agree that’s what they’re implying, but they really have kind of backed themselves into that corner.
@inthehands @fivetonsflax @micahflee The ADL argued no such thing. But nice try to say that a group that fights antisemitism is responsible for promoting it. It's an argument worthy of Elon Musk.

@tobie1 you mean the bunch that’s accusing Orthodox and Progressive Jews opposed to genocide of being “antisemitic” - that ADL?

Anti-Defamation League Maps Jewish Peace Rallies With Antisemitic Attacks

Progressive Jews are in the streets by the thousands calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. ADLs CEO says the organizers are “hate groups.”

@pandanus Sorry but JVP really is the equivalent of Jews for Jesus, and don't get me started on what a fringe group Neturei Karta is.
@tobie1 the “no true Scotsman” fallacy writ large and committing genocide…
@pandanus You may have slept through the Vietnam War but 3.3 million North and South Vietnamese died in that conflict. There are many claims you could make about the current war but genocide is not one of them. Even the prosecutor from the ICC who recently spoke at length about the conflict did not make that charge. I guess Mastodon has its own set of experts specializing in the law of armed conflict.
