Disney is planning to launch an NFT marketplace for Star Wars & Pixar characters powered by Dapper Labs, the company behind NBA Top Shot.

I can only imagine that this is someone's good idea from 2021 that got stuck in corporate development hell and took too long to ship.

Sunk cost is a hell of a drug. Instead of reading the room, Disney is really going to launch an NFT marketplace in 2023. šŸ˜¬

Disney is teaming up with NBA Top Shot creator Dapper Labs for a new NFT effort focused on trading collectible digital pins. Disney Pinnacle will launch later this year with an app on iOS.

@carnage4life yes and no. iā€™ve worked with the top brass at companies of this scale. the truth is, entertainment execs were so excited by the idea that consumers would be willing to pay out the ass for literally *nothing* ā€“ digital certificates ā€œauthenticatingā€œ digital ā€œgoodsā€ ā€“ that even after the crash, many cling to the hope that itā€™s going to make a comeback
