Ars Technica
@arstechnica gamergate was the entry point for so many of these little fucks

@camerondotca @arstechnica

Gamergate and MAGA are part of the same movement.

@camerondotca @arstechnica but I'm reeeely concerned about ethics in video game journalism 🙄
@mdhunstiger @arstechnica The 400th time I heard that I was ready to kill someone
@camerondotca @arstechnica I'm still pretty sure a bunch of that was a dry run for agitation in later elections. It followed a similar pattern, screaming accusations at any possible listener and nebulous enough to catch a wide group of people who wanted to fight over random relatively unrelated pet issues.
Somehow it "surprised" everyone that, shocker, a publishing sector that lives by press releases and free review copies might not be /entirely/ unbiased...
@camerondotca @arstechnica Plus it fed into a whole lot of "it used to be better" nostalgia.
"Everything's garbage these days and this MUST be why. I don't ever have the same feeling I got when I used to open Nintendo Power as a kid!"
@lothus @arstechnica but it was never about journalism. Ir was about punishing women for *checks notes* existing.
@camerondotca @arstechnica While that stupid journalism line was the catchphrase, it was VERY telling that the biggest targets were generally female or someone who had defended them, and IIRC a good bit started with one allegedly bad relationship story...Yeaah.
But I'd been pointing at the STATED reason for the "upset" here because that didn't make a lot of sense for the level of upset on the face of the claim, even before you looked closer at who got yelled at the most.
