Lowering the laptop specs wouldn't make it almost any cheaper without first having a massive scale. Most of the money from your framework purchase goes towards the things like R&D, excellent support, shipping, etc. Only when the company gets to the point where all of these things come basically free per unit can you make a budget laptop that makes sense. Although Frameworks have a great value second-hand if you are looking for a cheaper option.

I've pre-ordered my AMD framework as soon as I've seen the AMD version release news. I finally get to use it tomorrow and I can't wait

I don't plan on replacing this board for years, it has insane performance and I don't think I'll need upgrading for a while. Getting to replace the battery or adding touch screen if that ever becomes an option tho is very appealing

It's really reasonably priced for the hardware, it just doesn't have any cheaper options currently unfortunately
@Jessica @frameworkcomputer @mks_h Remember the Lenovo scandal? For a while, every Windows they supplied came with bloatware with a dodgy certificate which broke privacy badly.
I had one and it was faster and data usage was a lot less after I installed vanilla Windows.
@frameworkcomputer hoping you will ship to Indonesia, someday.
Take your time because my current laptop is still good ^^
@frameworkcomputer This nerd needs mouse buttons as a hard requiement.
And then, Coreboot without ME/TrustZone blobs.
Step 3: Bring Framework to India.
@frameworkcomputer would love to see it!
Fwiw aspect ratio is my main holdup. I'll be able to consider it much more seriously once 16:9 or 16:10 is on the way, but I understand that will likely be a while
@fogoplayer @frameworkcomputer it was for me too, but after using it for a while honestly I love it. These days 16:9 feels like I'm trying to watch a widescreen movie of my computer.
Then again I grew up with 4:3 so maybe I'm an outlier these days.

If you ever make a phone, I want one. I've had to pay to replace my third spicy pillow battery over the course of two phones last month. Being able to get replacement parts and service it on my own would have made things much easier and safer.
@Tathar @frameworkcomputer Have you come across Fairphone? www.fairphone.com
They have a modular smartphone and sell spare parts for it :)
