Memorable events in #Linux history ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘‡
@nixCraft
Arch suspiciously absent... ๐Ÿธ

@nixCraft at least in Germany Knoppix was a thing as it was especially designed as Live Distribution, first released on 30. September 2000: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knoppix Maybe worth an entry on the list?

to me this was the first distribution with freaking colorful console, from boot on. I'd guess Ubuntu might have been inspired by that.

@Pentropy @nixCraft my first live distro as well and the colorfull boot messages were cool, including the only known distro in my circle to see how the linux desktop looks llike without worrying about formatting and partitioning our already tiny hdd's then
@nixCraft
I came in at the second bend, first with a Linux PDA (Sharp Zaurus) then dual booting until completely Linux beginning of 2006.
@nixCraft 1983: GNU Project announced (development begins 1984). Happy 40th!
@nixCraft A lot of those things happened 4-5 years earlier than I realized that they did. No wonder I always feel like I am behind on Linux stuff.
@nixCraft you forgot "Year of the Linux Desktop" for the last 10 years ๐Ÿ˜‹

@nixCraft where is "The year of Linux on the desktop" ?

;)

@nixCraft first ever version of #linux I used was Yggdrasil Linux, released all the way back in 1992. Think I ran it on a 386sx 16. Oh the fun.
