We don't need Windows, we have Windows at home
@ActionRetro is that a cursed #ReactOS distro?
@kkarhan @ActionRetro iirc it was just a Windows styled Linux distro, a long time ago, and eventually had to rename
@ActionRetro Lindows shipped with “WineX”/“cedega” from a miserably awful company that pivoted to … real estate exploitation!
@ActionRetro it demonstrates the sheer long tail of Wine. Young'uns get very surprised when I tell them when Wine was first published (February 1993), and by 1999, people were expecting Wine would be a major part of Linux desktop supremacy...............................yeah.... sigh.

@tschak @ActionRetro Don't forget ReactOS!

Also, wine definitely is if you count gaming.

@ActionRetro If I recall correctly didn't they have some major hack a while back where essentially all of their license key purchases and the information associated with those transactions got leaked?

Edit: Nevermind, that was "LinuxFX".

@ActionRetro lindows triggers a bunch of feelings in me. All bad.

@ActionRetro Oh the memories.

I was fully in my post-Windows, SuSE 7.x full-time phase (before moving to Mac OS X in the mid-00s), and a buddy of mine was into Lindows/Linspire and Xandros.

It was surprisingly good for the time, all things considered. Other things weren’t really ready, but the concepts were in the right place.

@ActionRetro Michaelsoft is that you
@ActionRetro @mbernhard I saw this for the first time in the Doom WAD AUGER;ZENITH when Decino played it this week.

@ActionRetro In 2004 I walked into the Lindows building here in SD looking for a job but they turned me away.

Apparently my credentials of installing and using Debian "Woody" on my Pentium III desktop and troubleshooting Lindows while working phone support at a midwestern dialup ISP were not enough.

Nice looking office and I wish I would have at least gotten some stickers.
I was there, @ActionRetro . I was there three thousand years ago. I was there the day the strength of Men failed.
@ActionRetro The case reminded me of the Mac Clone era as well. Although that’s more that the clones often used generic styles cases.
