So there's a certain mindset I've begun to notice in vegans on some forums. (I know vegans IRL and this isn't all vegans, please don't attack me for slander.) There's this dichotomy of:

-Killing animals is WRONG and EVIL under ALL circumstances;
-Humans that kill animals deserve death.

And I don't really grasp how the second point isn't ALSO killing an animal? Is it different because humans are able to make moral judgements? Someone help me here.

@spearmintreader i'm against death penalty in all circonstances, but i understand that someone who find it appropriate for murder, might also find it acceptable for the murder of an animal.
@tshirtman Hmm, I can see that, I guess. I suppose my viewpoint is that they are fuelling an industry of meat-eaters, not just doing it for sh*ts and giggles. So if the entire industry is morally corrupt (in this hypothetical stance) do they then feel it would be correct to kill all the meat-eaters too?

@spearmintreader i guess people eating the meat would be as responsible (if not more, i guess that depends on your world view about economic choices and incentives), as people doing the killing, but talking in the generals is always hard (what about someone who eat meats but don’t pay for it, only if it’s going to be wasted, because they feel wasting what has been produced is even more reprehensible?).

I’m not in the head of everybody, but i can imagine people could live with this contradiction
