Yes, the math seems to be wonky on this poll ⬆️ - No idea why!
@dancinyogi i'll boost but I didn't vote because I've been single for a long time. Didn't want to mess up the stats!
@dancinyogi It had indeed struck me too.
@Eetschrijver Before it was 154% to 22%, numbers like that.
@dancinyogi I know pretty much all the important ones…you never know when you might need it
@dancinyogi Good poll question. I voted yes, but only because it's been an interesting few weeks and I've had to give it out a few times, so I've looked it up recently, and still remember it, but ask me last month, or again in a month, and the answer would be no. ;)
@davewoodx @dancinyogi I mean I barely know my own number, so…
@dancinyogi @researchbuzz My partner's phone is not in my phonebook. It's the only recent number I remember, the rest are all decades-old landline numbers, probably disconnected now.

Want to hear something crazy?

My grandfather was a clockmaker/repairer. When he sold someone a clock he would give them a card with his home phone number and tell them to call him if there was a problem. He and my Granny moved to their house since 1952 and my Granny still owns it.

In 2020 someone who had bought a clock in 1965 CALLED AND ASKED FOR MY GRANDFATHER TO HELP HIM FIX IT.

I know because I was there looking after Granny and I answered the phone.

@researchbuzz
Please finish the story. It sounds amazing!
@researchbuzz @szescstopni @dancinyogi This is as awesome as it is crazy! 😝
@szescstopni @dancinyogi @researchbuzz exactly. I don't know either of my kids (16 and 26) or my best friend's or parents phone numbers, but I def. know my spouse's.
@dancinyogi yes but only because I use his grocery loyalty account after I lost my card, so I have to enter his phone as an alt ID. The first 6 months I had to look it up almost every time.
@dancinyogi it helps that it didn't change in many years, and used to be mine, but hey, that's that still a yes 😆.
@dancinyogi Sort of: I remember the area code and last four numbers of it, but not the middle three numbers. My parents made me memorize my home landline as a kid (late 90s, cell phones weren't common yet), and I have that number still memorized.
@dancinyogi My phone knows — no need for me to memorize. I still know my former (and currently my dad’s) number from the 50s though.
@briansullivan I know Empire Carpet's number, 1-800-Kars4Kidz, and PECO, but cell numbers? Nope. I know my own, that's it.
@dancinyogi I don’t often even remember my own — don’t call myself very often.
@dancinyogi No as I don't even have a Spouse
@dancinyogi I remember hers but she doesn't remember mine🙁
@dancinyogi his and mine are the only two new numbers I have managed to memorise in at least 10 years (but also I don’t call anyone any more, so)
@dancinyogi We've been in a relationship almost 3 years. She finally remembers mine but I can't remember hers at all.
@dancinyogi I voted 'no', but I'm aware it's the same as my # but with the last digit changed to '1'. So maybe that would count as a yes if I had any clue of my own number without looking it up
@dancinyogi Oddly enough, my ex’s number is the only one I know, other than my own. It’s one number off from mine, since we got them at the same time back in the 90’s.
@dancinyogi
I even remember some of my friends' cell phone numbers and I don't have anyone in my phone's phonebook, if I don't remember someone's number, I'd probably have to look it up in my emails or chat logs.
That's probably pretty uncommon even for Fedi and probably stems from the times when I didn't own a cellphone at all, not too long ago, now that I think about it — I've always hated these things and I still don't rely on them a lot.
@dancinyogi I memorized it after many a nightmare where I frantically searched for their name on my phone and the contact wasn't there and I was lost 😅
@dancinyogi I should, but I don't. We met past the point where I stopped remembering phone numbers. Though I think he knows mine.
@dancinyogi No and for better data: She doesn’t know my one either
@dancinyogi It's my own number that I can never remember and have to look up.
@dancinyogi I say "Nope" because she doesn't have one
@dancinyogi Actually I know it. I just can't remember it. 😹
@dancinyogi I don't know my own phone number without looking it up.
@dancinyogi I know 7/10ths of the digits. I might sometimes be able to recover the other three if I sing a little DTMF song to myself while sampling my thumb position as it draws out a button curve.

@dancinyogi I don't believe that 62% remember the phone number. Stop Lying!

WhistleOut
@dancinyogi The old one which he keeps in an old Nokia because it is so cool. The current which belongs to the smart phone I would probably recognise.
@dancinyogi i used to be she changed three times since we’re together when i have the same for 20 years so it’s unfair^^
@dancinyogi Only because it gives me a grocery discount, though.
@dancinyogi @ramiro Mostly because I have to type it in at various stores for loyalty programs 😆
@dancinyogi
I’m a yes vote but a message came up that said “Validation failed: you already voted in this poll.” 🤷‍♀️ I’ll avoid a snarky comment about poll accuracy. 😉
@dancinyogi I know 3 phone numbers by heart.
- my phone number
- the landline at the family house my parents sold after their divorce in 2014
- the landline of the house where my classmate lived when we did that one group project in middle school

@dancinyogi do I know my parents or siblings?

Nope. Parents moved so my childhood number is toast ☹️

@dancinyogi I’m terrible with these things as I never actually have to dial them, my phone does all that for me. So, nope.

@dancinyogi

It was our landline number for 30 years, so I had time to learn it.

@szescstopni

@dancinyogi The only one I know is my own. I think I would recognise my other-half's if it appeared on screen but I honestly could not recite it
@dancinyogi
No,
Also don't know my own,
I haven't known anyone's phone number in probably 10y.
@dancinyogi @lenzgr yes, but it took about three years!

@dancinyogi The number of people voting no...👀

But then I remembered that I don't know my kids numbers - they're all saved in my phone lol

@dancinyogi I voted Yeah, but I don't have an SO right now. I voted that way because I do have my ICE (in case of emergency) contact number memorized.
@dancinyogi @purplepadma yes, but I think that’s literally the only number (apart from mine) that I know.

@dancinyogi voted yes ... As I did remember when I had a spouse ... Giggles
