Is this true? πŸ€”
@nixCraft some sure but a few tried where I work and it was so worthless we tossed their code and wrote it over.
@nixCraft chatgpt is like the guy who lied in his resume, all the managers love him, until the first PR gets reviewed and then it's like oh crap!

@special_parakeet @nixCraft It was interesting that I was just in a Zoom conference regarding AI, and the presenter gave a quote from McKinsey & Co. that was ridiculous.

"AI is a machine's ability to perform the cognitive functions we usually associate with human minds."

I laughed and left. Sent the presenter an email that they forgot to say that the output is a statistical analysis of the input. Therefore, the analysis can and will be wrong.

@trbarrettjr @special_parakeet @nixCraft How about
"AI is a statistical model's ability to perform bullshitting functions we usually associate with management consultants."
@trbarrettjr @special_parakeet @nixCraft that quote is correct for a future situation. Human minds also work by collecting data and doing some sort of statistical function.
What is missing from current AI is a set of procedures and "experience" (years of doing statistics from other topics and having reality checks from outside "players").
Our brain can and will be reverse engineered.
@trbarrettjr @special_parakeet @nixCraft You should have asked him when he will be replaced.
@special_parakeet @nixCraft except that the guy is emotionless and doesn't have a moral
@nixCraft "Which npm package do I need to use to left pad a string"
@nixCraft nah. I don't know many devs who don't think chatgpt is just another tool in their arsenal like any other tool, and that's at BEST.
@nixCraft they started to train gpt inside my company on our code and saying, that this is the future and we are behind of we are not jumping on this hype train
@nixCraft
When the FOD hits the fan, that's where this fails.

@nixCraft This is comparable to nuclear power and nuclear bomb:
In the first case, the peaceful atom works for the benefit of humanity.
In the second, you know...
Only the community can all regulate this. Not a POLICY!

And you don't have to myths about people stop doing creativity. On the contrary, it will push a person to creativity not for the sake of money, but for the sake of essence. In this case, AI wins without demanding finances.

Firefox used for translation - local translator (AI)

@nixCraft I still own the book and will defend it 😜
@nixCraft There is a door missing:
Stackoverflow.com
@nixCraft these would be called Prompt-kiddies? (like script-kiddies)

@nixCraft The new generation will learn how to make the best out of new technologies, while the old generations already master the existing technologies so well that they won't profit from the new technologies on the short run.

When I started to work with computers 1981, older people saw them as a distraction from the important work.

ChatGPT now is for AI what a Z80 CPU was back in 1981. In the future a ChatGPT descendent might become comparable to a compiler today and C like assembler today.

@nixCraft Nah... if GPT was that good such that programmers didn't need to understand the result with basic knowledge, it would have replaced programmers long ago. It's not happening because it isn't.

@nixCraft I have the same feeling, but for stackoverflow.

I can't say why, but I believe since the dawn of #chatgpt the traffic on https://quantumcomputing.stackexchange.com/ slightly decreased. But maybe this is only my personal perception and it was always that low. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
