From zero to full automation of lights, security system, and HVAC in 2 hours, thanks @home_assistant! (Got a Yellow, added on NVMe SSD and Z-Wave radio via GPIO). Video coming soon!
@geerlingguy Just saw your video on air quality monitoring over at Geerling Engineering, really cool stuff! looking forward to this one
@tebrown I think enough air leaks into my space from the neighboring spaces that my HVAC doesn't need to run all that much
@geerlingguy I need to look into that more. Clearly people love it but I’ve always just gotten by with Apple Home and the Hue sfoftware.
@j_holtslander yeah it's basically the next level and then you get to spend the rest of your life automating every little bit of minutiae and being jealous of people who built even more while custom automations 😜
@geerlingguy which zwave radio did you use?
@JetForMe the Zooz GPIO one that is recommended for HA Yellow, it was super easy to get it going!
@geerlingguy @JetForMe rats! that one won't work in australia.
@geerlingguy Home Assistant is my favorite! I especially love using ESP Home to make custom devices. I’ve made lights, a garage door opener relay board, and some variable speed extractor fans for my data closet (using Noctuas and PWM). The possibilities are endless.
@geerlingguy Is a Yellow that much easier than a Pi4 DIY?
I gave up on the Pi4 method because for some reason the machine would always be sleeping or shutdown or something when I went back the next day.
I tried Docker but their managed container thing was confusing and messy.
So have mostly given up despite loving the concept.
@Casper042 Yes it is; it was well worth the price to just have it all bundled in one box. Plus adding on Z-Wave via Zooz GPIO module was dead simple, and it's all been quite reliable for me.
