Schrodinger’s cat is now so ubiquitous a reference that it’s often used by people who don’t actually understand it or what it even means.

And you can only tell if they really do understand by waiting to see what they say next about it, to see if that demonstrates any further understanding.

But until that next thing is said, it’s impossible to tell. So they essentially exist in a superposition of both getting and not getting the reference.

@Marsh @commonst I was talking about this the other day. No one at work even knew there was more than just the cat involved.
@Marsh @SecularJeffrey Does having this many people focusing on Schrödinger’s cat collapse the wave function and now the cat’s always dead?
@Dogzilla @Marsh @SecularJeffrey how many half-lives has that cat been in the box at this point? The cat is only 1/2^(n-1) alive anyway.
@Marsh superposition all the way down 🐢
@Marsh I’d say that was meta but Zuck ruined that.
@Marsh
I think I understand the reference to the quantum mechanic "effect"?
So you can know "where" an electron is relative to the atom's orbits, but you can't know when because it's on a "cloud of probability".
I don't understand what's the reference about "measuring" that mess with the results (Young's electron beam experiment)
@Marsh So, I should put them in a box with poison gas, right?
@Marsh it's funny that the best known example of quantum physics is a joke trying to show that quantum physics doesn't make sense
@Wearwolf @Marsh interesting. really?
i thought it does make sense without making any sense /j 😄
@rpgshadow @Marsh I believe it was originally intended to be hyperbole but has been taken as an analogy
@Marsh The best part is that most people who think that they understand the original point will think they understand this as well.
@Marsh Schrodinger's Schrodinger reference.
@Marsh okay, so the cat’s out of the bag now! Or box? Or maybe both?

@Marsh well played my friend. Well played.

My fav is Douglas Adams saying actually the cat got fed up with the whole box thing and is down the street enjoying a nice saucer of cream.

@Marsh nice.
Few people seem to fully comprehend the meaning of carpé Diem too. It may mean go out and do something wild, if that's what you truly want. But it's real meaning is something closer to enjoy or embrace the day, if that means reading a book or doing a little gardening then so be it. It's not necessary to scare the living squeeks out of oneself
@Marsh No-one seems to have shared this so far. Sorry, no clue where it's from.
@Marsh @iita Isn’t that from a Katy Perry song?
@seb321
The words themselves? Would fit right in with whatsthetitle, Hot n cold. 😁
@Marsh would that then be... Schrodinger's reference?
@Marsh wasn't the cat thought experiment also intended to show quantum mechanics was a ridiculous concept, before it turned out to actually work that way? I always liked the irony of that
@Marsh I saw what you did there. Or maybe not.
Sure, I'll bite. As I've been telling folks, that cat has been in a box without food or water for over 80 years. I think we can safely say It's deader than a doorknob.
@Marsh We should talk about Pavlov’s Wallet. 😸
@Marsh @ffried This is total evil. Bravo.
@Marsh well, they exist in that superposition but also simultaneously don’t.
@Marsh
It is well-documented that Schrodinger was also a self-entitled, predatory pedophile. https://futurism.com/schrodinger-pedophile
His name should not be attached to a cat parable, a wave equation, or anything else
Turns Out Schrödinger, the Father of Quantum Physics, Was a Pedophile

A recent investigation found damning evidence that famed physicist Erwin Schrödinger was a pedophile — and even groomed and impregnated a 17-year-old girl.

@Marsh I don't know, I'll believe it when I see it.
