Maybe you all knew about this, but @davidho has just introduced me to this useful tool for expanding your Mastondon world:

https://followgraph.vercel.app/#searchForm

It looks at the people you follow and the people they follow and ranks them by the number of follows from your followed. Hopefully you will find some people who were on here all along but who you hadn't found yet - I did.

Followgraph for Mastodon

Find people to follow on Mastodon by expanding your follow graph.

@helenczerski @davidho oh delightful, I hope it works. I have found people here that I used to follow on Twitter and then when I try to go through their follows to find the others I don’t see anyone. I assume it’s a server thing I don’t understand. Maybe this will help.
@helenczerski @davidho note that unfortunately (last time I checked) it doesn’t take activity into account, so might recommend ghost accounts. Still useful though!
@helenczerski @davidho I like this tool, although I wish it filtered out people I already follow. Found a couple interesting people with it, though :)
@helenczerski @davidho ...ok, looks good, but why does it suggest that I follow many people I follow already (like @Ruth_Mottram for example)?
@wolfgangcramer @helenczerski @davidho @Ruth_Mottram I found that I was NOT following some of the people I thought I was following and with whom I often interact! Nice tool.
@helenczerski @davidho this is very cool! Just spent an hour or so following cool people
@helenczerski This is the awesomeness about open standards. If you miss a feature from the algorithm sites, someone can write that feature for you to opt-in, instead of forcing everyone through the funnel!
@helenczerski @davidho thanks! Very useful. This tool allowed me to find several interesting accounts.

Bookmarked. Will wait for the /. effect to subside.

@helenczerski that's a great tool recommendation, thanks for sharing it.
@helenczerski @davidho there isn’t much point. People follow me on Mastodon- but there’s never any follow up conversations. So I still use Twitter.

@helenczerski

so, Helen, you type in your handle, which would be
@[email protected]?

The Friend Suggestion app in streams works similarly (it's a direct descendent of the work we did in the early fediverse to provide ethical friend suggestions over the Portable Contacts protocol).  It also matches profile hashtags against your own so you'll find other people that are into #astronomy and #homebrew - for example. And if more people used location we would match against that and let you find folks within say 50km. Right now there are only a very small number of location-aware fediverse platforms; so that bit doesn't currently provide a lot of value add.

@helenczerski @davidho Fantastic. I just followed many people I found using this tool and this promises to make me feed a lot more interesting
@helenczerski @davidho A useful tool, thank you! I am sure that @feditips will have mentioned something like this and many other tips to help navigate around here. Another useful resource.

My Malwarebytes keeps on flagging trojans. I'll pass, thanks.
