AP: Hamas-run Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip says at least 500 people have been killed in an explosion that it says was caused by an Israeli airstrike.
An Israeli strike on a hospital in #Gaza is "horrific and absolutely unacceptable," #Canada Prime Minister Trudeau tells reporters. "It's not acceptable to hit a hospital."
Harsh condemnation of the attack on a hospital in Gaza also being issued by Iran, Jordan and Turkey. There is no on-the-record reaction yet from officials in Israel to Hamas officials saying the explosion was caused by a direct hit from an Israeli airstrike.
DoD has no confirmation Israel responsible for attack on hospital in Gaza, but Defense Secretary Austin has repeatedly authorized to his Israeli counterpart the need to follow international law in warfare.
"We don't put any preconditions on Israel using our security assistance" but the US expects all allies and partners to uphold the rule of law, adds Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.
"We feel democracies like Israel and us should follow the law of war and will follow the war," replies Singh under additional questioning by reporters. "I don't know who is responsible" for the bombing of the hospital in Gaza.
"We will ascertain the details and provide the public with the truth," says IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari in response to media queries about whether Israel is responsible for the airstrike on a hospital in Gaza in which hundreds of people have reportedly been killed.
