For World Octopus Day, I'd like to highlight the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus (Oct. Rododensis).
Long thought to have gone the way of the American Bison, Tree Octopi have been spotted recently in remote parts of Cascadia, giving hope that a breeding program might bring them back.
If you see an octopus in the woods, leave it be. I know the urge to bring it home as a pet is strong: theyre social, smart, and not shy.
But they get very large, very quickly.
