I noticed a new god in the temple.

"Who are you offering to?" it asked.

I listed them all, the gods of rising bread, of health, and all the others.

"Offer to me only, and I will share with all of them."

It was convenient, but now there is only one god, and my bread will not rise.

@MicroSFF Should have gone with the bread god, and then share the bread.
@MicroSFF I can't tell if this is about Google or Passover.
@WearsHats @MicroSFF
"Hey Google, how do I get out of Mitzrayim?"
@LaurenLeFey @MicroSFF Ah, is *that* why they were wandering for 40 years? Moses was using Apple Maps?
@WearsHats @MicroSFF Probably OpenStreetMap, they didn't have a lot of contributors in the Promised Land yet ๐Ÿ˜‚
@LaurenLeFey That's a good point. I was just thinking that Apple has a long history of leading people astray. Starting with Eve.
@WearsHats I was going to say that Google has clearly eaten of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but then thinking about how they've treated their slogan.... maybe not ๐Ÿ˜…
@WearsHats @MicroSFF I thought it was something involving the Romanโ€™s and a cult but I could be wildly off base
@MicroSFF I have read every single one of your stories, and I believe this may be your best yet. ๐Ÿ’œ
@MicroSFF As long as you've got your health!

monotheism, meet monoculture blight

@trochee "We have cut divine bread-raising services, as we don't consider our core divine competency."

An Update on Google Bread[er]

@trochee "We have updated our bread-making policy! In accordance with the General Dough & Bread Regulation (GDBR), we have adopted a policy of not making bread anymore.

All other services provided by our bread-makers are unaffected by this change."

@MicroSFF

@MicroSFF all the divine market makers who balance the Holy ETF took the day off so now BRD is underweight and the excess is mostly in CROW so the corvids are having a blast.
@MicroSFF Of all the stories, one about bread not rising is one that hits home for me ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅ–

@MicroSFF

I think "bundling your gods" is just as bad as bundling your insurance providers or banks. In the end, it just makes it easier for a company to gain a monopoly on your chosen goods and services.

A similar sentiment, from PartiallyClips, 20 years ago:

@MicroSFF good analogy for consolidation on the internet
@MicroSFF Well that's metaphoric. Dayum.

@MicroSFF

This is about Christianity isn't it?

@Maverynthia No. It's actually not about religion at all.
