Oiled and equipped with a main board from an original Game Boy. It fits almost perfectly along with the (non-original) power switch and battery contacts. Now I need some spare time for the top half. 1/2
Minor issues: Took away a layer too much at the top, which I will have to fix with the top half. That mistake also affect the screw near the power button, but I will probably glue the case anyway as I don't entirely trust the screws in the pre-drilled holes. 2/2
@DiConX That is absolutely beautiful. I can feel the wood just looking at this. Amazing work! Jealous 😅
@DiConX
You could use threaded inserts for the screws.
@Hiddentootster I looked into that, but the posts are too small for that and most cannot be made bigger as the cartridge or other parts of the PCB would get in the way.
@DiConX cc: @techknight @aparrish beautiful GameBoy shell upthread 👀↑↑ 🎮😍
@DiConX this is absolutely fantastic

@DiConX Please mark that as harcore nerd porn ;)

God, I love it, it's absolute awesome!

@DiConX please tell me you call it Pinocchio
@luvcraft yeah, "Wood Boy" is a bit plump, but Pinocchio is so far from the original. I thought about "Grain Boy", but then people think of crops instead of wood grain.
@DiConX 😯 a thing of beauty
@DiConX I think that I want one of those 🙂
@DiConX this is a thing of beauty. Nice job!
@DiConX Gorgeous work. I don't know a lot about wood (does watching New Yankee Workshop a lot as a kid count? 😁) but whatever combination of wood and finish you used is perfect for the object in question.

I can't wait to see the rest!
@DiConX oooh. Mind if I ask how the audio is? I don't know why, but this *looks* like it feels and *sounds* great.
@DarcMoughty oh, ehm... Sounds woody?
Don't expect it to sound like tonewood or a Marimba. The walls are quite thin and the cavities are not tuned but designed for function. Because of that it is also not as heavy as it looks.
@DiConX really nice. What CNC did you use for this?
@dosch I am using a Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 V2
@DiConX The digital generation is aging very well. Gameboys in rich mahogany is class.
@DiConX this is amazing! i've only seen a few projects like this. beautiful 💯
@DiConX call it Pinocchio because it's a Wooden Boy
@DiConX @fasterandworse for your enjoyment
@froztbyte @DiConX look forward to seeing that front shell

@DiConX nice.

Here’s a postbox in Japan, apparently.

@DiConX à une époque on parlait de console «en bois» pour parler d'une console de mauvaise qualité.
Mais là c'est la classe absolue !
Une Gameboy en bois.
@DiConX "my kids only play with wooden toys" 😁
@DiConX this is super awesome! Wish we had more every day items made out of wood.
@DiConX this looks incredible, fantastic work!
@DiConX this is one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my life.

@DiConX

Wow, this looks gorgeous!

Is this CNCd? You wouldn't happen to have a CAD model or a mechanical drawing?

@jeffalyanak Jepp, CNCd. I will release details about the toolpaths and my production files when it is complete. (I am using the Blender CAM plugin, though, so some awkward conversions might be necessary for more common CAD/CAM software.)
@DiConX No, that's perfect as I use Blender as well! I'll definitely follow along as you progress!
@DiConX This is quite a beautiful design. Can't wait to see all the details.
