Hunt said at the #NastyParty conference today: “Since the pandemic, things have been going in the wrong direction. Whilst companies struggle to find workers, around 100,000 people are leaving the labour force every year for a life on benefits. As part of that we will look at the way the sanctions regime works. It is a fundamental matter of fairness. Those who won’t even look for work do not deserve the same benefits as people trying hard to do the right thing.”

Who would have thought more and more people are too sick to work as we are living in a mass disabling event whilst the hegemonic narrative by the state, media and so many people is that the pandemic is “over” to the point you can't even pay for a vaccine in the UK and masks are a distant memory for many, even healthcare workers. Then we have the gaslighting and ignoring the reality of #LongCovid and how many people have this and will continue to become ill, too ill to work, because of said "post pandemic" BS. Instead this is used to add to the divide and rule, cut the already unliveable social security payments and sanction people whilst bringing in psychologists that tell you its all in your head.

Central to this is late capitalism, as we see furthering of gross inequalities and the corresponding drive of divide and rule politics to distract from said inequalities. Even though this is no surprise and things will get worse regardless of whether the Tories or Labour win the next election, I have found my mood really affected by this discourse and rhetoric today and also thinking about what this will mean in terms of day-to-day impact on disabled people's lives as we battle with the state on a daily basis, with it already such an ideologically brutal system. As always, we have a fight on our hands and we have to do this together, collectively, through mutual aid, radical communal care, to look after and be there for each other against the state, the gaslighting and the punitive practices and institutions.

@Trekhausen If companies are struggling to find workers, gee maybe raising wages with the increasing cost of living might help, rather than having an economy where landlords line up at the Tory conference to praise the politicians who awarded them Covid mortgage respites at the same time rents were still being paid into their bank accounts. Or heck, maybe seeing as there are more than enough resources on the planet for every person to live a dignified life, we could share them more rather than filthy rich ministers hoarding it and telling the working class to blame each other. These wretched creatures are sociopaths, ruining lives with the flick of a pen. Time for the masses to wake up and resist! Do no harm; take no shit. Rebellion!

@Trekhausen it sure doesn't fucking help that starmer's approach to everything has defaulted to "we can be tories too. we'll even do it better"

i really think i hate him more than the tories, because we should at least have an alternative to the evil party

@Yza Yeah, I understand that - my partner often says the same thing. The way Starmer was central to the downfall of Jeremy Corbyn and then pretended to adopt the Corbyn era policies to get elected by the membership and then has since proceeded to kick out left members, abandoning pretty much all these policies whilst taking donors off the Tories shows you everything you need to know about the direction of the Labour party!
