My feelings are somewhat mixed on generative AI personalities and social media. The focus of social media apps has shifted over time from connecting us with people to connecting us with entertainment.

AI personalities in your messaging app like Snapchat, Messenger & WhatsApp now have extends this disconnection from being about connecting with people. We’re replacing real friends with synthetic ones.

I feel like we’ve lost something.

The synthetic social network is coming

Between ChatGPT’s surprisingly human voice and Meta’s AI characters, our feeds may be about to change forever

@carnage4life I left Facebook years ago and see little incentive to go back, exactly because I always felt the connections there were already synthetic. When you have 100+ "friends", it's hard to truly connect unless you know that person already or you dedicate the time to cultivate the relationship with only a handful of people. And I think Facebook (and all the other platforms) are terrible at that.

I fear we're destroying our already deteriorating sense of community.
@carnage4life feel, nothin’. It’s real. A move that’s both an indicator and cause of social disconnection
