Figured out what Eastward reminds me of! Not so much Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy, (though it DOES have a faux Dragon Quest game inside the game,) but it reminds me of Secret of Evermore. The 16 bit isometric style, the charging mechanic, even the harsh transition from chapter 1 and 2. It's good.

Probably going to end up buying it as it's only $10ish atm.
