Just finished SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech. Very good game. Took < 35 hours, by far the longest SteamWorld game for me so far. Different, even for a series that thrives on difference. While the six games share the same overarching storyline, there are only two sequels. I've played Dig 2, and it builds on Dig 1, but more in a basic concept way. Everything is more, for lack of a better her, fleshed out, they're robots, and feels like a very different clanker.

I'll go on more about it later, but I'm sleepy now.

I do feel I'll wait on re-beating Dig 1 and playing Heist 2 for the first time for a while. Two months is far more than I usually give for an interest and its wearing on me. I'll come back with fresh feelings.

Put out a review for another SteamWorld game.

While all of them have felt short, the fact that I'm actually beating them is amazing. I never beat anything.

xox_Buny_x0x's review of SteamWorld Build | Backloggd

An interesting game. Build was the title I was the least enthused about of the SteamWorld anthology. Its the one game not by Image & Form, its from a genre that while I don't dislike, I don't give a lot of play, and its the most oddball genre of a series than genre hops as much as this knr.

When I first bought this, I actually beamed it up among the first, getting the itch. I closed it out a few months later after I fucked up placing my fist building.

I came back to it after beating Dig 2 and Heist 1 and I am glad I did. The two parallel sum games is an interesting hook and the difficulty and pace are such that I was actually able to get through the story campaign.

The city builder on the surface has clearly defined build trees and the necessities of roads to connect everything make a city shaped structure to the whole ordeal. At the end I was zooming around looking for something and was struck by how much my city had grown and how city-like it was.
Below, in the mines is a more straightforward rts. Dig out walls, place structure boundaries, gather resources and make the gathering faster, defend the base, etc. The paring helps in letting you switch out if one becomes boring imo.

The story is pretty bog standard. That it parallels Dig 2's plot timewise does help as it gives a new perspective to the same developments. Its also short, just a handful of hours. There is plenty to do outside of the campaign though as there are a half dozen map styles. The English voice acting is good as well.

One thing of note that I'll point out is that it has excellent console controls. I've played command & conquer 64 and Halo Wars and these are by far the best. Pretty smooth and intuitive. And where they fall short of a Ouse, accordances have been made. Like being able to move buildings for free.

All in all, not the best SteamWorld game, but enjoyable all the same. I might recommend/gift it to my first who likes sim games.

To quote Letterman, "If I could toot my own horn, I'd never leave the house."

Or at least that's where I heard the joke.

Mildly depressing:

I have beaten 8 of the games I own for the Switch. 3 in the past month. Several on other consoles, which means I own multiple copies or the original and remake. I do hope to beat a 9th soon. And that one's close to 100% beaten.

Still.

I do have to say though, of the vast majority of unbeaten ones, very few I consider a mistake of purchasing. I beat few games period. So if I enjoyed my time with them, that's enough.

SteamWorld Heist (2015)

Join Captain Piper Faraday, smuggler and occasional pirate, as she recruits a rag-tag team of steam-driven robots and sets out on a daring adventure. With your hearty crew you’ll board, loot and shoot your way through enemy spaceships. Overcome the challenges of the vast frontier by upgrading your robots with unique abilities, weapons – and even stylish hats!

Just beat Shantae Half Genie Hero. Totally on time. It was my first Switch game in like, 2019. Fun game though. Not as good as Pirate's Curse, but still a good platformer.

And with writing like this, who could object?

I'm playing Guardian Tales and I'm at chapter 10. Holy shit is it depressing. Its one of those Bad Future storylines where the MC isn't there. Though instead of Pottersville, the Invaders have taken over the world and the last of humanity is fighting a losing war in Heavenhold. Everyone is worse off or dead. I just got though the side quest where the character that races you in every chapter is in a wheelchair now. Seeing you seemingly return from the dead gives her the will to go behind enemy lines to get a pancea out of a vending machine. It doesn't work. It expired some years earlier. And that's after the previous chapter where the Invaders manipulated the Rah Empire to do a holocaust on the fleeing Kanteburian people.
Shit like that.
I suspect we'll find a time portal to get me back to when I left to undo this future, but its still hitting hard for this kind of story. Maybe because the game in general is so lighthearted.

Trying a new site for logging video games, Backloggd.

Seems nicer that the last one I tried. Hopefully I'll keep up with it.

xox_Buny_x0x's review of Squeakross: Home Squeak Home | Backloggd

Surprisingly excellent.

I've been exposed to Picross thanks to my 2DS and some free games, but I think this does it even better than Nintendo. The puzzles are addictive and getting the furniture is a lovely bonus.

I don't care for most of the game of Animal Crossing, so replacing it with puzzles and just letting my make my ratty home is perfect.

Queer af too. I approve.

She's not even hiding her kinds anymore, is she?
