I've got my RF modulator hooked up already. NTSC analog TV on VHF channel 6 is ready to go the instant the government shuts down.
Pirate TV forever!
When the killer clown down here fucks up our FCC equivalent (ENACOM) that will the bright spot in my life: scanning the airwaves for pirate transmissions!
They're coming to get me!
@sergiopantalone
Hypothetically you can do whatever you want anytime until they figure it out. You just have longer to get it done before you have to bounce sometimes.
@lispi314
The government needs to pass a budget so they can continue to spend money, but certain members are refusing unless their stupid ideas are passed as well. If no budget is passed, the government can't spend money, which means they can't pay any employees or pay for any programs.
But of course the pay for these members during this is unaffected, so they don't feel any direct consequences of their actions.
@foone
@foone FYI: just because the US government will shut down, doesn't mean all workers will stop, well, working, they just won't get paid, unless they are essential workers.
This means it is possible some FCC employee will spend the time in which the government is shut down, checking if anyone is pirating analog TV, for no payment at all. Not sure why anyone would do that, but they are in their right to do that.
Edit: I am wrong see below
@foone I've been looking a lot recently into how as an individual to legally broadcast TV signals for entertainment purposes. Turns out it's basically completely illegal unless broadcasts are limited to like 200ft, or you use something like LoRa (and even then maybe not?), and spread the word to everyone in the nearby area to build LoRa based TVs.
So this post satisfies me more than I can put into words
@foone
I'm imagining a great sf novel which begins:
"The sky above the port was the color of a television tuned to a channel swamped by a billion competing pirate tv stations after the FCC was shutdown."
