@boogah wait why do you want to ssh into your kobo?
(genuine question)
(also, can you install tailscale on it? :D )
@kitchen To transfer books to it. Right now my options are:
1. Plug it into my laptop.
2. Send books via FTP.
I know that I'm only using the telnet and FTP connections that it offers on my local network (and I can toggle those services on and off at will) but I’d much rather lock it down.
@boogah oh does kobo not have a thing like kindle where you can add books to your online library and it syncs them over? Or are you using a custom firmware on it?
(I was under the impression kobo was fairly feature parity with kindle, just from Rakuten instead of Amazon)
@kitchen It does not appear to. At least not out of the box.
Here's a brief running tally of what I've done with it so far:
@kitchen As for the "does it Tailscale?” question, the answer appears to be yes:

But doing it seems like it’s more of a hassle than I want to go through.
@boogah if you used tailscale you could just ftp and telnet and wireguard does the encryption :D plus then it has a "static" ip when it's connected
I'd be much more worried about the open ports even ssh especially since 99.9% of the time I'm connecting my kindle to wifi it's some hotel or coffee shop or train station or whatever
@kitchen NickelMenu will let you set up toggles for your services. Which I still plan on using when I get SSH added to the device. I'd just rather forget that I left SSH on than forget that I left telnet or FTP on.
