Getting SSH running on my Kobo seems like it's going to be a little more involved than I thought, but I remain undeterred. #KoboGang

Hacking the Kobo Clara HD – 5: Setting up SSH

Inane Observations

@boogah wait why do you want to ssh into your kobo?

(genuine question)

(also, can you install tailscale on it? :D )

@kitchen As for the "does it Tailscale?” question, the answer appears to be yes:

But doing it seems like it’s more of a hassle than I want to go through.

Tailscale on Kobo Sage

It's basically a rite of passage for Tailscale users to put Tailscale on the weirdest device they own.

@boogah if you used tailscale you could just ftp and telnet and wireguard does the encryption :D plus then it has a "static" ip when it's connected

I'd be much more worried about the open ports even ssh especially since 99.9% of the time I'm connecting my kindle to wifi it's some hotel or coffee shop or train station or whatever

@boogah anywho I might pick one up if I can find one at a brick and mortar here. I’ve ordered from Amazon for delivery here but they obviously don’t sell kobos (at least in Japan) and I … don’t feel like trying to navigate rakuten and shipping and all of that. I’m sure I can find one in a shop :)

@kitchen NickelMenu will let you set up toggles for your services. Which I still plan on using when I get SSH added to the device. I'd just rather forget that I left SSH on than forget that I left telnet or FTP on.
