quick question. does IPV6 IP addresses work with #DVSwitch Mobile. i'm trying to get the cheapest cloud provider to host my #Allstar node. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #Allstarlink
@aaronjohn0412 Allstarlink itself doesn't support IPV6. You absolutely must have IPV4.
@N2DYI o, thanks for the info. i'm on the right track now.
@N2DYI sorry for the newbie question but i know you're the right person to answer this. haha. is there a way for an IPV6 IP address to be accessed via an IPV4 address? so basically to make it think that it is an IPV4 address?
@aaronjohn0412 There are 4/6/4 tunnels. This is how T-Mobile in the U.S. does things. It's a native IPV6-only network with translation carrier-side for IPV4 addresses.
@N2DYI ok, i'm lost there. so it means this will depend on the network?
@N2DYI so, this means there is no way I can run an allstarlink node from an IPV6 cloud provider
@aaronjohn0412 Correct. There absolutely must be a real IPV4 address to register with.
@N2DYI ok, got it. thank you!
@aaronjohn0412 Out of curiosity, how are you planning to use a cloud-based Allstarlink node? If you just want a personal connection to ASL, you can do that with DVSM directly, either through WT or node mode.
Of course, you can't host incoming connections.
@N2DYI well, i've done those modes already. however sometimes i find it dropping and sometimes the node admins are telling me that my mode is not broadcasting its stats and that is required on their rules. i told them that i am using those modes and they do not understand. they told me that if i own the node, i'll be able to change the settings on it.
@aaronjohn0412 This is true. Node mode doesn't report stats because the mechanism for that doesn't exist.
@N2DYI haha, i don't know why they do not understand. maybe they are just not aware of this feature yet.
