Anyone on here use RPN style calculators?

I only use RPN because my brain likes it 😁

@antiproton I still use my 11C at work all the time!

@beige_alert the 11c is q lovely unit! I wish i had one 😁

Swiss Micros makes a new clone if you ever need a replacement

@antiproton I've also got a DM42! The HP 11c has been with me since high school in the late 80s!
@beige_alert nifty!
You have an original one! I also like the Swiss micros stuff and they do make a version that looks like yours as well, not just the 42 that we both have. Anyway these are wonderful little calculators and I adore them
@antiproton RPN is… quite possible haunted, but I use Soulver and Calca, since dedicated calculators hasn’t been a part of my life since I studied engineering.
@DavidNielsen some people's brains work that way and some people's brains do not lol neither is the "correct" way.
@antiproton I never claimed that, that said, I don’t do a whole lot of math on a day to day basis. RPN was never something I practiced using, so my experience with it has been playtime, rather than finding a use case where it really works well.
@DavidNielsen interesting. I use it everyday when I do math. I have a lot of trouble regular calculators lol
@antiproton I am a stay-at-home husband, so I use math for recipes and currency conversion, adjusting my dog’s food ration. Unless I am doing programming, then math really doesn’t feature in my life, aside marrying my wife, since she knew what an FFT is.
@DavidNielsen nifty!
We are an all woman house, so not husbands πŸ˜… but It definitely is useful around the house. Also, do you mean a fast fourier transform?
@antiproton I do indeed, my wife has a PhD (really a post doc, though she has never defended it) in Electrical Engineering, with a specialty in transmission lines. Very big brain that one, also an amazing ass, but that is hardly relevant, I mention it solely for personal reasons.

@DavidNielsen lol well I'm glad that she's loaded to the roof with credentials, for sure lol

I haven't gone down the PhD route yet, we'll see where the wind carries me. But that electrical engineering definitely explains why she likes an RPN

@antiproton she swings both ways, computationally at least.
@antiproton I imagine lots of people, particularly in engineering and technical fields, are RPN all the way. My daily driver is the Plus42 HP emulator on Android. Calculation at its best.

@Ptang yeah, I have one of those on my phone too. But I also bought a nice Swiss micros DM42 physical RPN calculator that's based on the HP42S

Note the custom wallpaper that has my name and the picture of the goddess and named for πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@antiproton Very nice. I've been tempted to get one myself. Love the Rotring, too! Unbeatable combo right there.

@Ptang yeppers! I keep those in my purse. Never know when you need to do sci stuff lol

I do recommend the Swiss Micro DM42, for sure! It's really nice. Also, metal and heavy πŸ˜²πŸ˜ƒ

@antiproton Might treat myself on next year's birthday...
@Ptang I mean it's your birthday right? Shouldn't you get the gift that you want? 😁
@antiproton I like the way you think!

@antiproton i grew up using a 41cx, and infix has always felt wrong to me! used a 48g through high school despite the teachers telling me they’d be of no help if i got lost 😹

still have those & quite a collection of other hps, my daily driver being a 16c.

i am pretty fond of the 41cv emulator for the 48sx, which gives a four-line tzyx stack display just like the dm42!

@brhfl nifty!

I used an hp38g in school, but I really like the hp42 lol

@antiproton here’s the 48sx with the 41cv emulator and its keyboard overlay. i think it’s kinda neat how, between this and the 42s, they gave the 41 a legacy. iirc, this emulator can send programs to the 42s over ir!
@brhfl nifty!!! I love calculators like that. I don't have enough free cash to go running around buying old ones like that, but I would be happy to if I did. They are just so nice πŸ₯° I do math all the time, so I always have a RPN calculator sitting beside me
