I had a realization about my #SensoryIssues last night…
None of my #AuditoryTriggers exist in nature. They are all 100% caused by human technology.
🤔
Yet another reason for my biophilia?

That's mostly true for me, BUT every morning my dog barks at me at ~90db (measured, not exaggerating) for like a minute straight as i prepare his breakfast, and dinner. Without ear defenders I'd 100% have a meltdown.
And, yes, we're trying to train him to not bark for breakfast, but he's just too excited for it to really stick. The other dog sits patiently and quietly.
You'd hate my house, where I encourage Little Man to speak up.
We've always had trouble getting him to eat, but if he's excited for it he eats better. We play hunting/stalking games all through me getting his food ready, and by the time I'm done, he's ready to eat.
@JeremyMallin @actuallyautistic Right as my neighbor starts his car with a rusty exhaust pipe producing a very loud rumbling, and just sits there with his car running for 5 minutes before driving off. YOU DON'T NEED TO WARM UP THE ENGINE FFS 😫 JUST DRIVE.
Nature is mixed for me. Birds can be pretty loud on a bad day so I tend to wear my earplugs even there. But generally, nature has a very different noise level for sure. Wish I had better access to less populated areas here.
@neversosimple
I can literally feel the rattle of your neighbor’s exhaust pipe, in that hyper empathic way many of us autists do.
Rattling metals are the worst.
@f1337 Rattling is an apt description. My ears rattle, my brain rattles, my *soul* rattles.
Thank you for your sympathy 😄

This. I can't stand how noisy humans are. I hate impact noises, and I've had neighbors from hell for the whole year. My wife and I are going insane, but money is very tight. Can't move.

For me, humans are the problem.
I have no problems with machines, animals, weather (thunder can be annoying tho).
As long as it is more or less rhythmic. Or not too loud.
But sounds with intention (a car accelerating, talking, a group walking across a metal covering), that is absolutely annoying for me, since it may be "relevant" and is therefore not tagged as low priority information.

Semi-related: A technical device that makes a sound (especially a loud one) is just wasting energy (compared to e.g. an animal moving).
This sound is a reminder that this device can still be improved.
