ANNOUNCEMENT: We're in the process of mothballing our Twitter account, which was previously our most-used social media platform.

Please help us out by boosting our posts so that our followers can see our updates and to help us build our audience here!

@streetsblogmass You are #johnmastodon

You are why this grand experiment and alternative will succeed. Not just Streetsblogmass.

You. the person reading this. You are why this will work.

@streetsblogmass please keep the account up, at least to prevent impersonation.
@christosilvia That's the plan – it's being mothballed, not deleted. We've also saved our archive as a backup.
@streetsblogmass have you considered doing an # introduction post? So folks who may be interested in whatever it is that you do can follow? Follow them back to build up a base.
@Liga We've been meaning to do that, thanks for the nudge!

@streetsblogmass A good way to build your audience here is by helping others build theirs, by following back.
@streetsblogmass use hashtags liberally to get seen by more peeps
@streetsblogmass kudos! Can you please ask your colleagues in NY to get with the program?
@streetsblogmass might I suggest you use this method, when you finally decide to pull the plug? https://infosec.exchange/@ryanhuber/109542198919348192

@streetsblogmass Are all Streetsblog sites doing this? Or does each decide individually?
@BruceMirken Each site is an independent entity with its own governance and editorial policies; we're the only outlet making this move for now but we hope others will join us!

@streetsblogmass

Kudos to you for leaving twitter.

Either you leave twitter, or side with Nazis.

@streetsblogmass
This one of the few constructive Twitter-relates posts I've seen!

Most are stating the obvious or simply whining.

Kudos.

@streetsblogmass If you are a #boston area peep like me, here is a new account for you.
@streetsblogmass Your followers will see your updates. No need to boost. There is no algorithm here.
@streetsblogmass I hope all the StreetsBlogs will do this (note to self to go searching for some of them)
@streetsblogmass Need to throw in some hashtags here to increase visibility
@streetsblogmass
Don't suppose you know of a #NewYorkState #ILoveNY equivalent to yourself?
Dear @FediFollows , whenever you make a pick of the day around transportation, environmental issues and the US of A, on a national or local scope, don't forget
@streetsblogmass , that are mothballing their account on that other social network and come here. Thank you!

@streetsblogmass funny I just saw this boosted now, did you ever follow through with it?

I do @psp and as much as I'd love to 💀 our Twitter presence it still has way more engagement than here 😞

@dave We've got a script that still tweets out headlines when we publish new stories but that's the extent of our presence there – I've deleted the app and am not spending any more time on the website.
@dave I'll add that by Twitter's metrics, those stripped-down headline tweets still get a decent amount of engagement, but we honestly don't see that manifest in clicks to the actual articles we publish, which is what we really care about. It's very shallow, low-value engagement.
@dave Here's a good example: on the morning of Aug. 30, Senator Warren re-tweeted a link to one of our articles. Her tweet got >200 retweets and Twitter alleges that over 300K people saw it. But our Google Analytics from that day show only 180 pageviews from *all* Twitter links on that day.

@streetsblogmass great insights, thanks for sharing. I think I did set up GA for @psp a long time ago, I should probably check in on that 🤪

I suppose referral analytics are a bit trickier in the fediverse, without a single known domain to aggregate on 🤔

@streetsblogmass Glad to help 😀👏👏👍✅😂
@streetsblogmass would help if you threw in a few guiding hashtags, since people follow those. just guessing here:
#urbanism #journalism #MA
@streetsblogmass
Oo I had never heard about you til now. So glad to know this exists! My partner saw some anti-bike lane signs in Malden this weekend + last week one of the candidates for city council said they would address climate change by getting rid of the bike lanes bc they force cars to idle. 🙃
@j_feral Councilor Sica, right? There's a local crew at Bike to the Sea that's been good at organizing against her shenanigans.
@streetsblogmass The signs weren't associated with a politician but inspired by Sica if I had to guess. The candidate was Dante DiSerio and I'm 99% sure there's no chance of him winning a seat, at least
