@ProPublica This is gross. Parroting information without vetting the source/source material is a big part of why we have so many problems with disinformation today.

Epistemology is important. We need to do better.

@ProPublica
20-ish yrs ago I was with a company with a contract to manage Intuit's temp labor onboarding/offboarding. Met regularly with Intuit folks. Had to watch them like a hawk - they were always on the lookout for anything they could use to gain a positioning advantage, noting every misstep. They once even camped on an open conference line to evesdrop on a call with a different client, & used that as leverage with our bosses.
IOW: Their corporate culture is icky.

@ProPublica

The capitalist propaganda "opinion" piece was a terrible opinion piece. Homie didn't give his opinion just share anti free gov tax filing opinions from the most biased source possible

It came down to "black and Hispanic individuals are more likely to be audited" and absolutely no argument as to how a gov run free online tax filing option would help or hinder that issue.

As @cstross says, what passes for tech journalism nowadays is basically stenography, copying the press releases of companies and passing them as articles.

@ProPublica A free IRS tax filing option is way past overdue.

We should all support this. Unless you earn a lot of money making your income complicated and therefore your taxes complicated you shouldn't have to pay to file your taxes. That's just crazy.

@ProPublica @Voline It’s obvious to anyone who is paying attention — Intuit, H&R Block, and their ilk don’t want a free alternative to their extremely profitable products. And sad to see what a sellout Benjamin Chavis has become. “Dr. King was a centrist.” My ass, King was a self-described democratic socialist. I’m sure he would speak out against what Chavis and the other sellouts are pushing here.
@ProPublica IDK maybe if those black taxpayers own a bunch of Intuit stock.
@ProPublica What pain Black Americans will feel if they aren't allowed to pay to file taxes. Whatever will they do with that extra $70? Imagine the mental anguish of deciding to use it for food, gas, or bills. How dare we put that level of stress on poor, unfortunate Black Americans who want nothing more than to be financially assaulted by a corporation.
