Living in a medium sized city it's not often I see interactions between large species. The eagle caught a fish & landed on an ephemeral log out of frame to the left. After eating the fish, the eagle hopped to the juvenile great blue heron's log. It's a favorite fishing spot for the eagles so it may have been trying to intimidate but the heron stood its ground.

@Rihilism it like a see-saw at a children's park. (Not sure you have those so might not get the reference). Great photo.

Lol! I can't believe I didn't make that connection. It looks just like that 👍.

Thank you! It was cool to see. They stared at each other for about 2 minutes but it felt like 15 because I had no idea what was gonna happen next. I don't think they knew either, lol.

@Rihilism the heron just looks bemused. They are strange creatures. The ones near me just arnt bothered, they just carry on doing thier thing even when I'm 10 ft away. Take this pic from yesterday as an example. 😂

What a gorgeous shot! Love the detail around the eye.

We only get great blue herons on the stretch of the river a few months of the year and I've not see anything but juveniles. I think we're getting young ones down from the breeding grounds. Ours are very shy. They'll fly to the other side of the river if I approach or appear to be watching them. This was the closest I got last year and this is heavily cropped.
