My beloved #rescue #collie died suddenly yesterday morning - 9 years old. An empath, an old and loving soul, a true companion. I am shattered. If anyone knows of a collie dog that needs a home, I have been rescuing and adopting collies for 38 years. Please reach out any time. Thank you.
@bespacific I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are family and this is always something difficult to go through. πŸ€πŸ–€
@GM7077 Thank you. I am feeling the loss deeply. Grateful I was holding him and we were at home together. He had been a stray and somehow was so full of compassion. He was especially drawn to elderly folks and kids - all of whom were delighted and delighted by his always gentle approach and closeness.
@bespacific My heart hurts for yours.
@TammyGentzel Thank you for your kindness. Our relationship was so aligned and constant.

@bespacific I'm so sorry
@shauna Thank you Shauna. He was a soft eared golden coated angel.We shared so much time together every day.Grateful to have been home on telework throughout "pandemic" to have him close.
@bespacific. I am so sorry.
@cindyweinstein Thank you Cindy. I know I am not alone in rescuing and adopting and the companions who share our lives are all ages and have many health challenges, which is a comfort for us all. We are kin.
@bespacific. Yes we are. I will keep my eyes and ears open for collies who need a home. Tell me, where are you?
@bespacific As someone who lost a dog recently... I know and I'm so sorry. I'll start to scout rescue dogs as well in a few weeks.
@evewrites they are hard to find. Back in the day the breed rescues were just a couple of good folks who spent a lot of time and money rescuing, providing medical care for and then placing dogs in good homes. Now it is as a highly controlled enterprise that depending on breed can shut out potential adoptees. Backyard collies are very common in the south and the dogs often have lots of health challenges. Each and every dog deserves a loving home. Best of luck on your upcoming effort.

@bespacific

I am sorry for your loss. πŸ™

@GoatRoper Thank you. I believe that I will be connected with another companion in the future. There is no end, rather, more beginnings.

@bespacific

I miss all my dogs. There were several. They all had distinct personalities.

@bespacific I’m so sorry. My rescue and I are thinking of you and your pup.

@bespacific hugz ... sounds like they were in the best place to pass ... hugz ... I know it must be tough, think of the wonderful time they had with you, and what's a better way to go ... and hope you can give happiness to many more puppies ... you're an angel ... hugz

Hugz & xXx

@bespacific I am so sorry for your loss! I've had a Rough Collie, and three Shelties. Current little guy, Jack, turned 12 in March, and is getting more rambuncous as the days go by. It would destroy me to wake to his passing. I can't imagine your suffering. Peace to you, hope you find another friend to rescue.
@tsmyther Thank you so much and I have long thought of shelties as companions with collies. If you are aware of anyone whom I can reach out to in the US, my thanks.
@bespacific I'm sorry for your loss he sounds like he was amazing. I'll keep an eye on the place where I volunteer in socal if we get any adult collies in (currently the only ones are collie mix puppies, and puppies tend to get snatched up the day they are available).
@SRLevine thank you sam - age not an issue for me. also shelties - would welcome either. much appreciated.

@bespacific This is where I am (they are collie/terrier mixes): https://pricelesspetrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/#sl_embed&page=shelterluv_wrap_1602258185907%252Fembed%252Fanimal%252FPPR-A-23573

the thing is puppies are ridiculous here and we get people *lining up* at 8-9AM (we don't open until 12PM) on the day they are available sometimes since it's first come first serve

ETA: also pretty sure we do not do transport if you don't live in the area, sorry

@SRLevine the faces! You have a much wider range of breeds for adoption than in DMV. My rescues have come from NC where there is a lot of backyard breeding generating strays, as well as give ups. Collies are high maintenance due to big coats, size and often hip and eye issues. They have big deep chests and are prone to twisted stomach. Each "breed" has its own health issues but for me collies are to the moon and back.
@bespacific I haven't being volunteering long, but I'm loving it. We get a variety since we're no kill and a lot of the county shelters nearby aren't so we get from them and also from other parts of the country. The biggest problem we have is that a lot of people around here rent apartments and the landlords have breed and/or size restrictions so some dogs are really hard to find homes for even if they are super sweet. Good luck finding one closer to home πŸ™‚
@SRLevine Being here in this community has been so uplifting, and I am grateful to all the folks who reached out and have supported me. I am always here for you as well - this is what makes Mastodon so special.
@SRLevine Sam meant to add I will cover cost of all fees - health and transport. thanks again.
@bespacific I’m so sorry for your loss.
