Back in the day the breed rescues were just a couple of good folks who spent a lot of time and money rescuing, providing medical care for and then placing dogs in good homes. Now it is as a highly controlled enterprise that depending on breed can shut out potential adoptees. Backyard collies are very common in the south and the dogs often have lots of health challenges.
