The β€œguns don't kill people” crowd sure seem to think books can make you gay.
@ErikUden There's a complete lack of logic in that crowd.

@ErikUden

No we dont....

I, like the vast majority of the "guns dont kill people crowd" are very very much pro free speech and against banning of books.

Im sure there are some pro gun people who arent... but to claim they represent the pro-gun rights community is not remotely accurate to reality.

@ErikUden 40-45 years ago my fellow students used to tell a joke that ran:

"My mum made me a lesbian."
"If I got her the wool, would she make me one too?"

Seriously wonder if libertarians in America would chuckle. Or take to the barricades with "Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!"?

#OldJoke

@ErikUden although i share your sentiment, that is a terrible statement to make...
@ErikUden
Yeah, funny that. It must be an alternate realty
@ErikUden shows you what they really fear
@ErikUden it's the fascist's schtick: scream bloody murder about any attempts to "control" them (e.g. covid masks) but then turn around and try to control everyone else's lives (abortion, etc.)

@ErikUden

it isnt about "making you gay" but it is virtue theory -- helping people to be moral not tempting them to think carnally. big difference even if they cant articulate it

@ekknappenberger @ErikUden I think it's a still pretty common misconception that gay love would be more carnal than straight love

@gunchleoc @ErikUden

well of course it is, it does not fit into the only safe category of sex.

@ekknappenberger @ErikUden I'm wondering where this idea is coming from. Maybe from the early days of the AIDS pandemic when blaming "them" made "us" feel safer, because that virus was really scary? πŸ€”
@ErikUden BOOKS DON'T GAY PEOPLE
@ErikUden they know books don't make you gay, but can show you a world in which it's ok to be gay. and in a way they're right, books are more powerful than guns and that's why they go after them so hard
I Kill People

He is back, and he's going to kill you. www.jonlajoie.com

@ErikUden If that were true, all of the cheesy romance novels I read in my youth would have made me a horny damsel in distress instead of an opinionated, stay out of my space, asexual. 🀨
@ErikUden I LOL'd so hard at this one.
@ErikUden books continue to be the coolest medium a millenia later
@ErikUden They also think that people make people gay, though.
@ErikUden And a Drag Queen reading a "gay" book...those kids never had a chance.
@ErikUden Banana Republican policies kill people.

Seriously.
@ErikUden I have firearms because the books can make you gay/trans people don't like my existence, and would end it by force if they could.

@ErikUden

Maybe we need to say guns make you gay.

How could you prove they don't?

Now let's use the same criteria for books.

@pete @ErikUden

Guns can make your testikels disappear...

πŸ˜„

@ErikUden

books won't make you dead, but bullets will.....

@ErikUden stop underestimating conservatives. They don’t think that at all. They think that books that say it’s ok to be gay make ppl think it’s ok to stop pretending they aren’t gay. Which is all they care about. They don’t care what their kids feel so long as the kids pretend to be straight.
@ErikUden They've been saying that since the 80's. Probably for slightly different reasons, though. :/
@ErikUden their book makes them violent racist misogynistic egotistical assholes, so it isn’t surprising they are worried other books may have negative influences on people. What they don’t understand is that that only works on people that are willing to believe things that their own eyes show them to be false, such as the existence of an invisible sky wizard that runs the universe.
