“Spotlight on services" is my new article on a critical but under-reported part of UK exports - includes:
- fresh analysis of the UK's post-TCA export performance
- effects of TCA on services exports to the EU
- UK 'services superpower' position under threat (see chart)
- politicians (of all parties) need to openly acknowledge the economic and commercial realities of the TCA

@rjbarfield1 Ireland’s gain as the only English speaking country in the EU and Eurozone.
@Becksy True and Irelands economic performance is remarkable, but it’s not just the consequences of Brexit. Other EU countries have also gained (eg in financial services) but overall I think both EU and UK are poorer and weaker (not just economically).
@rjbarfield1 it’s true that everyone loses with #brexit The full impact will take a decade to emerge. Big decisions such as relocation of activities take a long time to plan and execute. Property leases are typically 10+ years, many commercial contracts are long term too. But as the only English speaking country in the EU, Ireland will gradually take more services business from the now marginalised UK players.
