@thegreybeardofthetree #kmail used to be my daily driver and arguably best part of #kde . But akonadi is broken as hell, so nowadays I use #thunderbird for work. It's sad and stupid in comparison, but has functioning IMAP and works with Google.
@radon #kmail with #akonadi postgres works quite good for me.
I heard arguably worse about the evolution data server then about akonadi.
@thaodan You use #kmail with gmail? Or any other IMAP server? Because on my personal email with very little traffic it has all kinds of issues. Trying it on work email with hundreds messages per day was a complete trainwreck. AFAIK problem is not with db backend but with IMAP being pile of garbage that requires zilion quirks and workarounds to work reliably. Thunderbird has these.
@radon Yes I used #kmail with Gmail. Besides Gmail breaking KDE's authentication or API keys sometimes I didn't have issues.
My traffic was fairly high since I also had my work email connected into addition to my private email.
But after sometime I moved to my own Dovecot #IMAP, besides working sieve I didn't found any differences.

@radon I miss #emclient https://www.emclient.com/ - I used this in #windows - very smooth experience, and very powerful (no linux build) . Used #mailspring for a while on #linux, but wanted something completely free (don't mind paying for something like emclient though).

Recently tried both #evolution and #kmail - I'm on #KDE (long story - my desktop looks like #gnome 😂). Evolution seems smoother, but maybe #dbus issues... can't sign in to #gmail - #yahoomail is ok....

eM Client - Email Client and Calendar Software for Windows and Mac

Ich habe mir die kostenlose Version des eM Client für Windows installiert und der eM Client ist super.

@thegreybeardofthetree for now, there's a truce between the two - I'm using #evolution for #yahoomail and #kmail for #gmail . This is clearly not a permanent solution - will address in coming weekend. I suspect that some #gnome #dbus service might not be running for #evolution , let's see.

Both seem very powerful, and while neither has that one nifty feature #emclient has (right click on mail - view all messages from sender -> bulk delete/unsubscribe 😎), mail filter is very accessible...

It's been years since I had used either #kmail or #evolution but both feel more powerful to me than #thunderbird does.
