Roman noticed the chess set in a cabin corner, with hand-carved wooden pieces. He asked the woodsman, "You play chess?"
"I do," the man replied, "though I rarely win."
"But - all alone in these woods, who do you play?"
"My opponent," he said, "is named Willow. She makes one move a night, when I sleep."
"She breaks into your cottage?"
"No - she moves pieces remotely. She is a dryad, you see, and they are carved from branches fallen from her tree...."
