We passed 20,000 followers in this week on #mastodon!

In less than a year, we've accumulated 29% of the followers we got in 9 years of regular posting on the #birdsite, and we get far, far more engagement with our content here.

Thank you.

We will continue to post regularly here because we have found it is a community that values our kind of thoughtful journalism, written by experts for the public.

If you know folks who haven't discovered us yet, we'd really appreciate a boost #Newstodon

@TheConversationUS

When's the Conversation Canada coming to Mastodon?

@TheConversationUS Thanks for the shoutout, Conversationers!! 👊👊
A Journey Through My Microbiome: An Immigrant’s Perspective on a Changing Gut

As I moved across the globe, my microbiome changed in ways that I could not control.

Thank you for being with us through this journey!

@TheConversationUS does anyone get engagement on MuskChan without paying?

@aristeon89

@TheConversationUS

Is anyone allowed to engage there without paying? The last couple times I peeked in, it was only blue check marks.

@TheConversationUS

Boosted! I enjoy seeing your content in my feed.

@TheConversationUS That is great, and you have been a model for how this is done here.

@TheConversationUS

This is a worthwhile organization.

And #Mastodon is a place where journalists can build real, organic, lasting connections unmediated by corporate agendas or interference.

@TheConversationUS A lot of my favourite articles have been written by the authors there so I appreciate the work you're all doing.

@TheConversationUS

" . . . we will continue to post here regularly" - sounds like "we post on xitter, but we also post here"

Please, lots of times I get it wrong, tell me I got this wrong.

@kevinrns We do also post there, but it is largely automated. We spend more thought and attention here. And get much more engagement here.

@TheConversationUS

Xitter is not a social media site anymore.

It is a weapon, and the sight, the stock, trigger, of that weapon are hidden to casual observers by the flowers of sane people decorating it, as if it were not an array of howitzers being brought to bear at the American Democracy.

Without even counting the racists platformed, Musk's military protection of the Russian Fleet blockading Ukrainian wheat exports ends all doubt about the evil of the platform.

Wikipedia Founder Crushes Elon Musk for Caving to Twitter Censorship in Turkey: ‘Treat Freedom of Expression as a Principle Rather Than a Slogan’

Twitter restricted access to some content in Turkey a day before the country’s presidential election

"Xitter is no a social media site anymore."

It stopped being that no later than when Musk purchased it.

It is now an invaluable disinformation propaganda disseminator for autocrats and fascists.

@staidwinnow @TheConversationUS

Erdogan the dictator, being swept from office because controlling all the press wasnt enough when the crappy cheap buildings Erdogan insisted on, fell down killing Turks.

But Elon prevented the democratic opposition from ANY COMMENTS when Erdogan spread Deep Fake Videos of the democratic opposition chanting terrorist slogans.

Its not just thug nazis passing notes, its a weapon aimed at democracy, home and abroad.

Turkey Election: Elon Musk Accused of Censoring Erdogan Critics on Twitter

Former GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger called Musk a "free speech absolutist" for "censoring content from the anti-authoritarian Turkish side."

A fascist helping an autocrat friend out.

@kevinrns @TheConversationUS

As Alex Wagner (MSNBC) aptly described, Musk is in fact a "Free speech occasionalist". 🎯

Quite so, 'pretty flowers' in the form of some smart, 'woke', non-#TrumpVirus believers, advocates for #truth, etc, are still 'there', in relatively undisturbed enclaves of longtime follwers/followees...

Increasing likelihood of trolls reacting to public posts, and threats of dis-allowing blocking.
Plus the #MuskVirus - endorsed hate and #disinformation.

Hey... #IIWII

@kevinrns @TheConversationUS imagine what he’ll do if Trump is elected again? No more criticizing Dear Leader.
@TheConversationUS Already following you, so glad to see you "get" Mastodon!
@TheConversationUS Where's your french counterpart ?
@TheConversationUS I’m glad #TheConversation (and the Aussie edition) is here on #Mastodon. Leading the way, and good to hear you’re getting good engagement as well
