maybe i should make videos about stepmania.. this is such a complicated rabbit hole full of useful and not useful information I could dump somewhere.

Stepmania 3.9 vs SM5 vs 5.1 and it's various forks.

+0.09 global offset for R21 ITG

Themes and timing DDR vs ITG

Quirky behaviors between different platforms.

Decent/WO quirks and overlapping timing causing incorrect judgements and WO chains.

Shortfalls of the newest stepmania (outfox) and why I avoid it.

why DDR themes don't feel quite right compared to official DDR

and way way way more.

I just feel like I have no authority because I do try to make ITG fit the needs of a classic DDR player.

I don't play stam/tech/gimmick currently. Just regular old fashioned arrow-stomp.

@luvstiger I've tried playing arcade ports of DDR on my home setup and it just doesn't feel the same. There's an entire vibe to physically going out and playing on a machine you don't own, possibly impressing people you don't know.

One thing I was briefly fascinated by is "Wife" timing implemented by the Etterna creator, which gives score based on ms deviation on a smooth curve, instead of being within a timing window.

@grifkitty I could never get arcade ports synced correctly except maybe X2 on a windows 7 machine ages ago.

The silly thing about arcades is that most players now are experts. I'll AAA gold ring a song and someone will come by and AAA White-ring and I'm like.. what the hell I thought I was good at this game.

That curve seems to make a lotta sense. There are so many variables when it comes to sync. The console ports of DDR come to mind with the hilariously wide timing windows.

@luvstiger I would legitimately watch those! I've enjoyed Stepmania quite a lot but I've always been mostly casually interested in it so that kind of thing would answer a lot of questions I have.
