"please turn your ad blocker off to view this article"

The annoying thing is Firefox is the only browser with plugins on mobile, afaik

Every other browser is limited because "app store restrictions" or something, sure it comes with basic adblock sometimes, that or you may have it implemented via DNS, but you don't get the plugins that lets you remove that "turn off adblock" popup

@Yuki Firefox is superior anyways.
@Yuki safari on ios has extensions and even ad guard works but android is much much better anyway
@Yuki
I have a knee-jerk response to any such demand. These words flash through through my mind instantly. "You have vastly overestimated my interest in whatever this link was meant to go to."
@Yuki
This and websites that you start skimming to find the bit you need to read, you just find it then you get the agreeing to cookies popup, which you do and it whizzes you back to the top. Then you get scrolling again and you get the "stories like this to your inbox" popup and you lose your place again.
@Yuki
If you're using Chrome, the "Behind the overlay" add-on does wonders for most of these sites.
@Yuki Disable JavaScript, and the banners are gone.
@Yuki
Some news sites give free access to archive.org and other archive sites, so going to view them there gives you access.

@Yuki haha

They cant have it both ways. Want to drive engagement to their site AND call the shots.

@Yuki “tell you what - you turn off the 20 trackers on your web page, then we’ll talk about the ad blocker”

@Yuki And every time I do, I'm absolutely drowned in banner ads, garbage fake news crap at the bottom of the page, video ads at the top of the screen, and ANOTHER video thumbnail playing in the corner of the screen, along with that weird bleeding gaping hole ad that appears underneath the page as you scroll.

Fun times.

@Yuki I'm terrified YouTube is going to do this some day, uBlock origin is not going to be able to get around the adblocker-blocker, and I'm just going to have to stop watching YouTube.
@Yuki usually reader mode works for me
@Yuki
You can just disable JS for the site and usually get access. :)

@benjaminhollon @Yuki And you then find out the page is dynamically loaded 🎉

We all love the internet :)

@Yuki I did that once... the page took about a minute to load on a 100Mbit/s connection due to all the ads! 😂
@Yuki firefox reader mode often gets past this
@Yuki Sure I am Happy to allow add's at your page. I use pi-hole please tell me what to white list instead of being a cock face.

@Yuki It is funny and I'm not sure it's legal in all states. It's not legal in California and I don't think the demand to remove ad blockers is legal in the EU. But it does tell you that the product is you.

Critical Covid information remained behind paywalls during the pandemic. I get the publications are struggling to survive. However, that shouldn't require the general public to dox themselves.

@Yuki "Alright then, I'll send it to Wallabag"
@Yuki uBlock zap go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
@Yuki you are not even worth the search in the web archive!

@Yuki uBlock Origin + Bypass Paywalls Clean makes for a less-annoying world.

@Yuki “Please turn off your ad blocker” is Ferengi for “please turn on your script blocker”.
