Every time I hear the term “normal republican” vs “the crazies” it’s hard for me not to laugh because it is the effort and/or complicity of “normal republicans” who vote against their own interests or inflict harm on their voters in service to maintaining white supremacy and its power

It’s “normal republicans” who for years birthed and nursed the ideology that is now the doctrine of “the crazies”

This who these folx have always been

@KimCrayton1
Just like religion, then.
@KimCrayton1
Your toot reminds me of Dr. King’s observation that was something to the effect that the most damaging voters are those who see themselves as “moderates” or as being “reasonable”.
@KimCrayton1 "Normal" Republicans are all beta dogs to the crazy Republican Alphas.
@KimCrayton1 some scary parallels to Germany both in the 1930s and now.
A big chunk of voters claiming to not be racists/antisemites while gladly voting racists/antisemites into power ("Steigbügelhalter") 🤮

@KimCrayton1 At this point, a "normal Republican" means a trump voter, right? (That's why he's leading the primary pack by something like 35-40 points, right?)

So a "normal" Republican now means someone who will vote for a racist, raping, fascist traitor who tried to steal the election (GA, false electors), tried to overturn it (Pence certification), and when those didn't work, tried to *violently overthrow the US*.

That ain't "normal" by any sane standards.

@KimCrayton1 Yeah, it's kinda like when they talked about "the normal Germans."

Reading a book on fascism right now and it documents fully how so much of the "normal Germans" went along with the Nazi's as long as what they did benefited rather than bothered them personally.

@KimCrayton1

What's normal for #Republicans at this point is fomenting #Fascism or voting for people who do.

What's important to stress is: what we've all been taught to call Fascism is what happens when #capitalism starts treating white folks the way it's treated #Black & #BIPOC folks The Entire Time

@KimCrayton1 Most of my rural, religious family is remarkably progressive, but we do have a contingent who went full MAGA. Thing is - they were always racist. They were the ones sending their kids to be missionaries to fuck up other countries. They were always homophobic, preaching "hate the sin" so hard that love never came into it. The ONE difference is that now they feel confident to say what they want, where for about 40 years or so, in a few places, they didn't. It's horrific, not new.
@KimCrayton1 a real rising tide would lift the smallest boats first.
@KimCrayton1 They are the “good Germans’

@KimCrayton1
Something that I've heard conservatives say in recent years, the Republican party isn't actually moving to the right, it's everyone else that's "moving to the Left".

The republicans who seem sane right now? They were always the moderates, they haven't changed their views, they just seem less extreme because they are standing next to the people who've always been hardcore fascists, and are now just mask off about it.

@KimCrayton1
...because this is what they've always been about, this is what they've always wanted. They weren't squeamish that civil rights was moving too fast, they never wanted civil rights to begin with, so now that we're gaining all this ground on things like gay marriage, they are scrambling to push back as hard as they can before the Overton window shifts any further...

...but they're going to fail, because you can't undo mere-exposure to minorities and our struggles.

@KimCrayton1 The Republican Party is an immediate, direct threat to our democracy.
Vote it into obscurity.
@KimCrayton1 In the UK we have normal Conservative MPs too scared to vote against their stupid right wing leaders as they'll be stopped from standing as an MP again. They'll get voted out though even if they do stand
@KimCrayton1 At this point, I’ve decided that anyone who still calls themselves a Republican is either woefully ignorant or just an objectively Bad Person. And unless you’ve been living in a cave for 40 years, it’s pretty hard to plead ignorance.
@KimCrayton1 My goodness 100% this over and over. This is well put so I'm going to share this view around.
