The second half of the debate started with a question about Trump's mounting legal troubles Six of eight of the GOP candidates on stage raised their hand when asked if they would support Trump if he is the Republican nominee if he is convicted. Former Govs. Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson did not raise their hands. Christie, a vocal Trump critic, said: "Somebody's got to stop normalizing this conduct." He added that the "conduct is beneath the office of the president of the United States."
@StevenBeschloss I don’t know why there was a debate. His legal defense is ‘stall for time’…so he’s running no matter what. It’s either win or jail. His followers aren’t going to vote for anyone else period. So…the GOP’s choice is just 2 options; nominate him or destruction. Because Trump would run as an independent…again he has no choice.
So barring a total party split (or him croaking)… he’s the nominee.
They just can’t bring themselves to say that…
I want to wonder aloud how that crowd was picked.
Is this Trump's new strategy?
Pack the audience with supporters and let them represent you when you're not there?
Because it looked like him and Vivek had the crowd's support.
Maybe two campaigns doing similar things?
My favorite part was when #meatballron paused to make sure other people had raised their hands before he followed suit.
