Germany once again leading the #MastodonMigration: The parliament of the federal state of #RheinlandPfalz stops posting to #X/#Twitter and will use #Mastodon instead.

It speaks of problematic developments under #ElonMusk and says, that for example #Nazi content is now barely moderated over there. And also that the significance of Twitter shrinks.

Typically, when I talk to people about Mastodon the main reason people are not investing time here is the small user base.

Electeds will not show up here until the local community is active. I'm trying my best to organize and connect with folks in my local community - but bootstrapping is a hard sell.

To get people here, what can you do so that politicians show up?
Evangelism of this space as a non-corporate, non walled-garden commons helps. Posting and boosting things you want to see here, helps. Organizing with likeminded people here helps. Calling out nonsense here (assorted -isms and -phobias) so that marginalized groups have better experiences helps.

I tweeted to city of Cambridge while ago, prompting them to post to Mastodon, but ignored (probably coz twttr notification sucks). I thought they’d be one of the first municipality to be here, being the “people’s republic of Cantabrigia” 😂

Too bad if those people were to join, they would be making it bigger. Everything starts somewhere smallish. We the people make things happen by participating, I believe.
