@itnewsbot I've read about that before. What a supremely silly idea. It "supposedly" works great, but has only been tested in the simulator. Why introduce so many new points of failure? This can't be simpler, better, safer or even cheaper than just adding some functions to the existing avionics: look at the latest Garmin products, they even include an "autoland" button, which will automatically land the plane at the nearest suitable airport. Without a silly robot.
This is just a stunt to raise research money.
As a side note, I still can't figure out why people thought "Airplane!" was a good movie. I hated it; just a string of the silliest lowest-effort jokes. Funny perhaps as party skits, but only once.

@itnewsbot It gets worse:
"In particular, it can make use of recent #ChatGPT technology to remember the full Quick Reference Handbook (#QRF) and respond immediately to various situations"
*ouch*
But "it can [...] fly without error."
Yeah, right. And if nothing else, this clearly marks it as hunting for grant money by using current buzz words.

@hopfgeist @itnewsbot I was agreeing with you right up until you started knocking the Airplane movie! I'm sure it's jokes are dated, and probalby more than a few are cringe-worthy or totally inappropriate for today's societal norms, but I think it's important to "see what they did there ..." :-)

@clolsonus @itnewsbot To add, I found the jokes as cringe-worthy in the 80s as they are now. This has nothing to do with "appropriateness" for societal norms, or being dated.
@hopfgeist @itnewsbot There appears to be strong evidence that my own sense of humor is far less refined than yours.
@clolsonus @itnewsbot I have stopped judging other people's senses of humour🤷‍♀️. You like it? Good for you!
