Driving down Comm Ave through BU, our Swedish guest exclaimed “this is the most American road I’ve seen yet!”

I felt the need to explain that “train tracks for light rail and offstreet separate bike lanes are not canonically American”, but seems the width of the road giving a sense of America is what she was reacting to.

@crschmidt Going to go take a drive through Rt 1 in Saugus or something for some calibration of America?
@nathanw @crschmidt yes this is necessary.

@klaus @nathanw We did Route 1, up to Kowloon for some quintessential American Chinese food, then went up a bit further to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, where she marvelled over our choices of things like frozen pizzas, ice cream novelties, and the ability to buy a child's car seat, TV, and groceries in the same store. We then returned along the Fellsway, where we watched as sidewalks evaporated leaving no space for pedestrians along the side of the road.

A++ American Experiences all around.
