Radar shows heavy rain is beginning to fall over northern Baja California, southern California and Arizona as #Hilary approaches

#Hilary is forecast to degrade to a tropical storm before it moves over SoCal, but that does not mean decreasing impacts!

Huge amounts of rain are expected to cause dangerous flash flooding and landslides across the Southwestern US, with strong and gusty winds in higher areas.

@zoom_earth This is unheard of in southern California. 🧐 I trained a Deep Learning forecast model for western US with 34 years of historical data and it has never seen a tropical storm. I'm wondering how miserably it would fail.
@weiming @zoom_earth Interesting! The last hurricane to hit California was in 1939. Unfortunately data doesn't go back that far, but I really wonder how this event may impact future guidance.
@zoom_earth Sandy's winds were no longer hurricane force when that storm flooded New York City and environs, knocking power out in some sections of the city (including all of lower Manhattan) for days.
